Taking proposal requests

Your roof can run your building at the peak.

Grocery stores, big-box retailers, malls and distribution centres have acres of flat roof in full sun. We fit them with solar and LiFePO4 batteries, so your building runs on its own power through Ontario’s most expensive hours.

Visualization of a distribution building whose white flat roof is covered in rows of solar panels, with lime lines of energy along the rows, trailers at the loading docks and cars in the lot.

Solar peaks at noon. Your costs peak later.

Panels make the most power in the middle of the day. The expensive hours come in the late afternoon and evening, when all of Ontario is drawing at once. A battery moves your solar into those hours. That shift is where the savings are.

  • Make it on the roof

Solar covers part of your daytime load directly, at no fuel cost, for decades.

  • Hold it for the peak

The battery stores what the building does not use at midday and releases it when grid power costs the most.

  • Cut your peak share

Class A customers pay Global Adjustment on their demand in Ontario’s five highest peak hours. Stored power can carry you through them.IESO

  • Help the grid

When your building does not need the stored energy, it can supply Ontario’s grid at the peak instead.

Four ways to pay. One proposal.

Every proposal prices all four options on the same roof and the same numbers. You choose the one that fits your balance sheet.

  1. Option 1

    Buy

You own the system outright and keep everything it saves.

    • Pay for the system up front
    • All savings stay with you
    • We design, install and can maintain it

Best when you have the capital and want the highest long-term return.

  2. Option 2

    Lease

Use the full system for a fixed monthly payment over an agreed term.

    • No large upfront cost
    • One predictable monthly payment
    • A fixed term, set in the proposal

Best when you want the savings without tying up capital.

  3. Option 3

    Pay per use

We own and run the system. You pay for the energy your building uses from it.

    • Nothing to buy
    • A rate set out in the proposal
    • We handle operation and upkeep

Best when you want clean power with the least to manage.

  4. Option 4

    Mix

Shared ownership. You own part of the system, we own the rest.

    • A smaller upfront share
    • The split is set in the proposal
    • Savings shared to match ownership

Best when you want a stake without carrying the full cost.

What goes on your site.

  • Solar array laid out around your roof’s structure, drains and rooftop units.
  • LiFePO4 battery, a chemistry chosen for long cycle life and thermal stability, in a purpose-built enclosure.
  • Inverters and controls that connect solar, battery and building to your electrical service.
  • Monitoring so you can see what the system makes, stores and saves.

We plan to import panels, batteries and inverters directly from manufacturers instead of buying through distributors. Lower equipment cost shortens the payback, whichever way you pay.

More than an install.

Some sites need storage without solar. Some already have equipment. Two services cover the rest.

  • Battery and inverter rental

Rent batteries and inverters from VerdantWatt, sized to your load, instead of buying them.

  • Monitoring, dispatch and peak prediction

We watch your system, forecast Ontario’s peak hours and schedule your battery to meet them.

Built for big, flat roofs.

The program fits buildings with large roofs, steady daytime use and high peak-hour bills.

  • Grocers

Refrigeration runs all day and all evening, right through the peak.

  • Big-box retailers

Huge roofs, long opening hours and heavy lighting and cooling loads.

  • Malls and landlords

Shared roofs and common areas, with savings that can be passed to tenants.

  • Logistics and distribution

Warehouse roofs measured in acres, and loads that keep running into the evening.

From first email to first kilowatt-hour.

  1. Roof and bill review

Send us the address and a recent year of electricity bills. We model the roof from aerial data.

  2. Site visit

An engineer checks the roof structure, and an electrician checks your service and electrical room.

  3. Proposal

A layout, expected output and savings, and all four ways to pay, side by side.

  4. Approvals and build

We handle permits, the utility connection and ESA requirements. Licensed contractors install.

  5. Operate

Monitoring from day one, with dispatch tuned to Ontario’s peak hours.

Questions people ask

Can our roof carry solar panels and a battery?

Most large flat roofs can carry solar. Every roof is checked by a structural engineer before anything is designed. Batteries are heavy, so they often sit on grade in a fenced enclosure near your electrical room instead of on the roof.

Who handles permits and the utility connection?

We do. Permits, the connection application with your local utility and Electrical Safety Authority requirements are part of every project. All electrical work is done by Licensed Electrical Contractors.

Will the battery help with Global Adjustment?

For Class A customers, it can. Class A pays Global Adjustment based on its share of demand in Ontario’s five highest peak hours of the year. A battery that carries the building through those hours lowers that share. Class B customers save by using stored power in place of grid power during the most expensive hours.

Are there incentives?

Some projects qualify for federal tax credits or provincial and utility programs. We check what applies to your site and include it in the proposal.

Can we compare the four ways to pay?

Yes. Every proposal prices all four options on the same roof and the same numbers, so you can compare them side by side and choose.
